>> Two kids and one teacher were shot and injured at an elementary school in South Carolina Wednesday. One student had to be airlifted to the hospital, while the other child and the teacher were rushed in an ambulance. District school superintendent Dr. Joanne Avery.>> We are heartbroken about this senseless act of violence.
But we are so thankful for the quick response by law enforcement. The quick response by the principal, teachers, and staff kept this horrific tragedy from being much worse.>> Students were evacuated to a nearby church for safety until parents arrived. The shooter, just a teenager himself, was quickly taken into police custody.
Very few details were released about the shooter because he's a juvenile. But officials say he used a handgun and since he was home schooled, they're not sure how he entered school property. One other important detail? Police found the shooter's father dead from a gunshot wound two miles from the school and are tying the youngster to that death.
The whole incident bringing to mind the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, one of the deadliest mass shootings in US history.
