>> Two journalists were killed, Monday, when a tree fell on their SUV as they were covering subtropical storm, Alberto, in Polk County, North Carolina. News anchor Mike McCormick and photo journalist Aaron Smeltzer of NBC affiliate WYFF in nearby Greenville, South Carolina were driving along 176 when the tree came down on their vehicle.

The men had just interviewed a local fire chief who says he received a call only ten minutes later about the, quote, freak of nature incident. Authorities say first responders at the scene found the engine still running and the transmission in drive. McCormick had been with the station since 2007.
