>> The gunman had killed three people in Belgium before being shot dead by police. The man killed two policewomen and the man passing by in the in the city of Liege according to local media. Authorities have since confirmed the death toll, with terrorism being investigated as just one possible motive for the attack.
d the country's Prime Minister has said it is too early to jump to conclusions. Local media have reported the man may have attacked the two officers with a knife before seizing one of their weapons, and that he allegedly shouted allahu akbar. Broadcast RTBF said the attacker was recently released on parole after serving time for drug offenses.
Federal investigators have taken over the case, an indication terrorism could be a motive. Belgium has been on high alert after a Brussels-based Islamic State cell carried out attacks in Paris in 2015 and in Brussels the following year.
