This is the first election since the controversial peace deal was signed in 2016. And will decide who will replace President Juan Manuel Santos, who signed the agreement.

Under the deal thousands of rebels demobilized, and group is now a political party with some members holding seats in Congress. Leftist Gustavo Petro is polling in second, Petro has promised to overhaul the country's economic system and redistribute wealth.

Mathematician and centrist Sergio Fajardo and Santos backed former Vice President German Vargas round out the top four. If no candidate gets more than 50%, the top two will go to a runoff in June.
