>> The BBC reports that President Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, received a secret payment of at least $400,000 to help the president of Ukraine get a meeting with Trump. Citing unnamed sources in Kiev, the BBC said the payment to Cohen was arranged by intermediaries for Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko.

Who met with Trump at the White House last June. Cohen says the story is completely false. The BBC describes a back-channel set up for Poroshenko through a former aide who it said used ties to a Jewish charity in the United States to make contact with Cohen. In a statement to Reuters, Poroshenko's office also said the BBC story was, quote, a blatant lie, slander and fake.

]>> The report said that a week after the two leaders spoke in Washington, Ukraine's anti corruption agency suspended its investigation into the business dealings of Trump's former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, who faces money laundering charges in the United States. There's no suggestion that Trump knew about the payment to Cohen.

If the report is accurate it would indicate that Cohen secretly took payments from foreign governments as well as Fortune 500 companies like Novartis and AT&T after Trump took office. Cohen is being investigated for possible bank and tax fraud and possible campaign law violations linked to a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, who said she had an affair with Trump.

Trump denies the affair took place.
