>> Fans have been waiting for this moment for two decades. The Washington Capitals are heading to the Stanley Cup Finals, a first for the Capitals iconic captain, Alex Ovechkin, in what otherwise has been a stellar 13 year career. The Capitals blew past the Tampa Bay Lightning after winning Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
With Ovechkin scoring the winning goal Wednesday night, just 62 seconds into the game. Three more goals for the Caps and 29 saves by goalie Braden Holtby solidified their 4-0 win over the Bolts in Tampa. The only thing in the way of the Capitals and their first Stanley Cup is the Vegas Golden Knights.
A team that didn't exist a year ago, but has attracted a passionate fanbase by smashing expectations. The Capitals and the Golden Nights will face off for game 1 of the finals on Monday night in Las Vegas.
