>> The man accused of killing eight people in a truck attack in New York City pleaded not guilty to murder on Tuesday. 29 year old Sayfullo Saipov, an Uzbek immigrant, was arrested after the October 31st attack. Police say he plowed a truck down a bike lane in Lower Manhattan.

He's charged with 8 counts of murder, 12 counts of attempted murder, and 1 count of providing material support to the Islamic State Militant Group and other charges. The criminal complaint says Saipov told investigators he was inspired by watching ISIS videos and began planning a year earlier. According to the charging document, Saipov also said he felt good about what he had done and asked permission to display an Islamic state flag in his hospital room.

Saipov's court-appointed attorney declined to answer questions after his client entered his not guilty plea. The federal murder charges carry the death penalty, although it is not clear whether prosecutors will seek it. After the attack, President Donald Trump on Twitter repeatedly called for Saipov to be executed.
