>> After an uninspiringly drizzly summer so far, shirts off for the UK's hottest day of the year. Many are heading to the British seaside as temperatures reach around 35 degrees in some parts. With #hottestdayoftheyear trending on social media, it's fair to say some here can't handle the heat.
Britons are turning to each other with advice on how to keep their cool, what to wear, what to eat and how to sleep through the sticky nights without air con and for London commuters, how to survive the sweaty Tube. Some are hoping in vain to get the day off work.
Many turning to frozen goods to cool off, a tactic also being used at London zoo where the gorillas are enjoying ice lollies. And Larry, the Downing Street cat, also catching a few last rays before the rain is expected to return by next week.
