>> Long lines snake around the two Singapore hawker stalls, which have just made dining history, they've each been awarded a Michelin star. I'm Sophia Soo for Reuters in Singapore. This city state is known for its street food culture, but with inflation, higher rent, and young people taking on higher paying jobs, there's concern that the hawker food scene could fade out.
But with the award of a Michelin star to a hawker stall like this one behind me, things could change. Curious customers are keen to see for themselves how the traditional street food they serve rates alongside the fare from top restaurants.>> I think he deserved the award, really deserved it, because the noodles are really too good.
>> Singapore is the first Southeast Asian country to be rated by the Michelin guide. This is the very first time a Michelin star has been awarded for street food. Chan Ho Ming, who runs one of the stalls, says he's delighted, especially if it helps to bring new blood into the hawker trade.
> I'm very excited, never knew hawker food can go global, so I'm very, very happy. Hopefully, the next generation will also pick this up.
