>> Fresh wounds and renewed worry as the Republican Convention heads into its final stretch Thursday. Unsettled by divisions after an unmistakable power play at the RNC Wednesday night. The arena floor erupted into uproar after Texas Senator Ted Cruz Cruz stopped short of endorsing Donald Trump. Reuters TV Producer, Chris Dignam was in the arena when it exploded.
>> Early on in Ted Cruz's speech, the crowd was listening intently. They were applauding, it was going well. But when it became somewhat clear that Ted Cruz was not going to officially endorse Donald Trump, the crowd turned on him. Especially when he told them and a national TV audience that they should vote their conscience.
>> Stand, and speak, and vote your conscience.>> And that prompted boos, jeers, Trump, Trump, Trump chants, and some of them even saying Lying Ted, his famous nickname that Donald Trump gave him.>> As it became clear that Cruz's speech might steal the night, Donald Trump himself entered the arena in an effort to steal the spotlight back.
The fury builds. One Republican delegate told Reuters, he personally escorted Ted Cruz's wife Heidi, from the convention center fearing for her safety. The wounds of a bruising primary season exposed anew. Just as many in the party had desperately hoped they'd healed.
