He's now being convicted of inviting support for Islamic State. The court finding Choudary used online lectures and messages to encourage support for the banned group. Reuters UK correspondent Mike Holden says, until now he's alluded prosecution for some 20 years.>> Choudary studied law as a student, he knew where he could, and what he could and couldn't say, where he could and couldn't go that would get him in trouble with the police.
He's been arrested on numerous times in the past but never charged with any criminal offense.>> Choudary's close associate Misnorraman also on the rack sheet. Both men were found guilty last month, but their convictions couldn't be reported due to legal restrictions. Choudary's has been a thorn in the UK state's side for some time.
He once headed the now banned Al Muhajiroun. That group regarded as a breeding ground for militants, with police suspecting it for being a driving force behind the London bombings in 2007 and a long line of extremist links. It's estimated that around 20 to 25% of all of those are found guilty of terrorism offenses or involving terrorism plots in Britain have some link to Choudary or Al Muhajiroun.
