>> A stunning loss for US women's soccer in Rio Friday. The team's 4-3 overtime defeat by Sweden, knocking it out of the Olympics tournament, and marking the end of an era. It's the first time ever that the team has failed to reach the semifinal stage of a major tournament.
Not even star goalie, Hope Solo, could stop the fall, which culminated in a tense round of penalty shots. Solo, not mincing words after the game, saying she thought, quote, we played a bunch of cowards. The better team did not win today, I strongly believe that. The loss also snaps the US's streak of three consecutive Olympic gold medals, but one streak is now guaranteed to remain intact, no reigning World Cup champ has ever gone on to win Olympic gold.
