>> Fatalities reported after a strong earthquake hit central Italy in the early hours of Wednesday. A 6.2 magnitude quake, striking near the town of Norcia in Umbria. The mayor of nearby Amatrice reporting extensive damage. He told Italian TV that half the town is gone and that there has been a landslide.
A fire department spokesman saying, there are reports of deaths but not putting a number on them. Italy's Civil Protection Agency calling the quake severe. It was felt as far away as Rome, about 170 kilometers from the epicenter. A 5.5 magnitude after shock hit about an hour, after the initial shaking.
The last major quake to strike it's legit the same region in 2009, killing more than 300 people.
