>> Turkish lawmakers voting Saturday to restore relations with Israel. Ties were cut off six years ago because of this incident. Israeli Marines storming a Turkish Coastguard ship to to enforce a blockade of the Gaza Strip. Ten Turks were killed in the attack. Now Israel has agreed to pay $20 million to the bereaved and injured.
In return, Ankara will drop all outstanding legal claims. Turkish MPs say there are good reasons for a deal.>> I don't think there will be a problem with implementation. Israel is dependent on Turkey for security. They can't afford to be against us while it's surrounded by Arab and Islamic countries.
Secondly, there are natural gas resources in the Mediterranean that they are pursuing and we want to be a part of it. The shortest and safest route to transport the natural gas to Europe, is through Turkey.>> Ambassadors from both countries will now be appointed. The Turkish president, Tayyip Erdoğan, it's a good time to make friends.
Relations with the west increasingly strained amid criticism of Turkey's sweeping crackdown on domestic opponents.
