>> The Democratic Party on Saturday electing Tom Perez to be the new chair of the Democratic National Committee. Perez, a former US labor secretary under President Barack, Obama narrowly defeating congressman Keith Ellison in two rounds of ballots. Both men seen as party progressives, but Perez is more associated with the establishment wing that backed Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential primary contest.
Ellison campaigned for Bernie Sanders. In a show of unity Saturday, Perez announcing Ellison will serve as Deputy Chairman of the DNC.
