>> Women taking to the street across America, Wednesday. Marching for a equality and protesting against President Donald Trump's policy on abortion and health care. Dubbed a Day Without A Woman, the one day demonstration coinciding with international women's day with events in more than 50 countries around the world.
Some women skipped work. Others boycotted stores at least three US school districts in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina closed on Wednesday because of staff shortages. In New Your City, thousands gathered in Central Park. One Wall Street firm even placed this statue of a little girl defiantly staring down a well-known Wall Street bull on the eve of the march.
To draw attention to the lack of gender diversity on corporate boards. And some women protesting in front of Trump International Hotel were arrested as well. Organizers are trying to build off the momentum from their strong showing in January, when the women's march on Washington broke records for American protest movements.
Reuters Joseph Ax.>> So the women's march drew millions of people all over the world, different events and that obviously catalyzed a lot of people, a lot of activism in the Trump era. So we've seen kind of a series of nationwide protests and different actions since that time.
This particular rally here in New York was actually organized by some of the same people that organized the march on Washington. In January, the original Women's March.>> Women in congress walked from the house floor to the Capitol steps.>> I said to the women in the march, and aren't we proud of the march and all that it engendered throughout the world.
Said to the women, you have marched for progress. Now you must run for office.>> Despite an overtly anti-Trump theme to the day's events, First Lady, Melania Trump got in on the action>> Hosting a women's only luncheon at the White House, which included guests Ivanka Trump and Kellyanne Conway.
