>> The gunmen dressed as doctors to storm this Afghan military hospital, as a suicide bomb went off outside. At least 30 people, including patients, doctors, and hospital staff were killed in the two-pronged attack in central Kabul on Wednesday, that was claimed by Islamic State. Dozens were wounded. Security forces battled the three attackers for hours before they killed them, blocking off the streets around the hospital as special forces landed on the roof.
Islamic State poses a growing threat to Afghanistan, having established a solid presence on the Pakistan border. It has mounted several high-profile attacks on civilians over the past year. The Taliban denied any link but is still active. Just a week ago attacking a police station and an office of the intelligence services in Kabul.
Wednesday's attack on a hospital treating military casualties from around Afghanistan drew wide condemnation, President Ashraf Ghani saying it trampled on all human values.
