if you're worried about this , the journal nature reporting Wednesday the national institutes of health is ending its chimpanzee research program an email from NH director Francis Collins and nothing fifty remaining animals will be sent to sanctuary , the NIH retired more than three hundred Simpson twenty thirteen but maintains a reserve fifty animals for use in research in very rare cases , such as public health emergency , but the US fish and Wildlife Service granted should endangered species protection in June preventing testing on animals unless the work would also benefit wild chimps , animal rights activists hearing the announcement but it's not yet clear where the chimps will enjoy that retirement , with only twenty five spots available
