>> Deadly terror attacks in Europe are casting a shadow over New York as the city gets ready to ring in 2017. With an eye on deadly truck attacks in Berlin last week and Nice last summer, 7,000 New York police officers will make security sweeps of hotels, theaters, and parking garages, as well as scan for radiation and weapons.
Plus, dozens of sanitation trucks will be deployed around Times Square, the center of one of the world's biggest New Year's Eve celebrations. Reuters' Hilary Russ was at the police briefing.>> They're using sand trucks, so these are gonna be Department of Sanitation trucks filled with sand. They deploy them out to various strategic locations to block any kind of potential truck attack like we saw in Nice.
They're gonna be 65 of them. So they're gonna be a number of them out there. But it sounded like something that was gonna be more on the periphery to stop a potential truck that want to attack people from being able to barrel into a crowd.>> In a show of force, New York Police will also be equipped with thick vests and long guns throughout the city.
New York Mayer Bill de Blasio and police officials emphasize that as of today, there is no credible threat to this year's celebrations.
