Alibaba CEO Jack Ma touting plans to connect a million small US businesses with Chinese consumers. A move he says could create a million jobs in the US over the next five years.
Plenty of back slapping in front of the reporters. Ma calling Trump smart and open minded.>> Yes, very productive meeting, we discuss about the helping the American small business selling things through Alibaba platform to China and to Asia. So we may talk about a small business, a young people.
And American agriculture products to China.>> Ma says he wants to focus business, particularly on the American Mid West, looking at opportunities in China. From small clothing makers to farmers selling wine and fruit. Where the jobs themselves will come from is unclear right now. The two men meeting as tension builds between China and Trump's incoming administration.
Which has proposed steep taxes on Chinese goods that could hurt Alibaba. The incoming president has also made Beijing unhappy over his approach to Taiwan. To that end, the meeting may have served another purpose. In the Trump Tower lobby Ma said the door was open to talk about US China ties.
