>> The death of actress Carrie Fisher uniting generations of Hollywood stars, and diehard Star Wars fans in grief. Fellow cast members from the Star Wars franchise mourned her passing, Mark Hamill tweeting, no words #Devastated. Star Wars fans expressed their grief in their own way.>> One thing we know for sure, the force is with you Carrie.
>> Fisher rocketed into fame portraying the heroic Princess Leia in the epic Star Wars films died Tuesday in hospital after a cardiac arrest onboard an airplane last week. She was only 20 when she first donned the white gown, now iconic hairstyle and no nonsense attitude of a galactic princess.
And of course, the golden bikini. Fisher was born into Hollywood, the daughter of actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher. Her daughter is also an actress, currently starring in the TV show, Scream Queens. After Star Wars, Fisher won acclaim for several supporting roles, but drew much attention from a series of Hollywood romances, and a long battle with drugs and alcohol.
She turned those experiences into several well received books, including Postcards From The Edge, which became a movie, and Wishful Drinking, which she toured as a one woman show. She had a gift for wry, self deprecating humor and bare all storytelling. Her latest memoir, The Princess Diarist titillated fans by disclosing a love affair she had with costar Harrison Ford while making the first Star Wars film.
Summing up her show biz legacy in the 2011 book, she said that what she planned to leave behind was quote, an extremely accomplished daughter, a few books, and a picture of a stern looking girl wearing some kind of metal bikini, lounging on a giant drooling squid, behind a newscaster informing you of the passing of Princess Leia, after a long battle with her head.
Fisher was 60 years old.
