>> Comrade Cyril Ramaphosa as the new President of the African National Congress.>> Welcome to the stage, the new leader of the African National Congress and the front runner to be South Africa's next president. Cyril Ramaphosa has been elected leader of the ruling ANC Party, replacing the outgoing presidential incumbent, Jacob Zuma.
It's a vote of the most pivotal moment of the party in 23 years, since it instigated black majority rule under Nelson Mandela. Ramaphosa beat his sole rival, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, in a close run affair. She was Zuma's chosen successor and his exwife. Rumaposa is one of South Africa's richest people, but he has a tough job ahead, not the least, to build trust in his tarnished party.
Jacob Zuma's presidency has been tainted by graph accusations, claims he denies. The 105 year old party came together here, to elect it's new leader. There's no guarantee a new face will heal rifts that emerged under Zuma's rule, but there's little time to waste. South Africa will choose its next president in 2019.
