>> Military police shot a man wielding a knife at Amsterdam Schiphol airport on Friday. He was wounded and taken into custody an official said. There were no reports of other injuries, and no other details were released. The area immediately around the incident was closed to the public, but the airport, Europe's third largest, continued to function normally.
European countries are on alert after a string of militant attacks over the past few years, some involving knives. But it was not yet clear if Friday's incident was terrorism related.
