It's a boy, and the first baby in the US to be born to a mother with a transplanted uterus. Doctors at Baylor Scott & White Research Institute in Dallas say they're thrilled.>> My heart goes out to all the women who really trusted us in this journey.
It was difficult in the beginning. And we understand that sometimes you have to go through difficulties to be able to enjoy moments like this.>> The mother, whose name has not been disclosed, was born without a uterus. But after two complex surgeries lasting several hours, she received one from a live donor last year.
The baby arrived a month ago.>> Now when you see this boy, you really feel like you've done something beautiful, pure, natural.>> It's not a world first, eight other children, all in Sweden, have been born to mothers with uterine transplants. But it potentially paves the way to expand surgical opportunities for women in the US who may be candidates.
