>> California firefighters, on Friday, mourning the death of one of their own. 32-year-old Cory Iverson, was killed the day before fighting the Thomas fire, which has scorched much of Southern California for nearly two weeks.>> He's a great young man, and he was somebody that really loved this job, he took great pride in wearing the CalFire patch.
>> Iverson was fighting an active fire in Fillmore in Ventura County. He leaves behind a wife who is pregnant and two-year-old daughter. Firefighters will be tested by vicious winds Friday, with strong gusts expected again Saturday night, through Sunday evening. The Thomas fire which started near a small college in Ojai on December 4th, has blackened roughly 250,000 acres through several counties, including Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.
Just 35% contained, it's California's fourth largest fire on record, destroying more than 700 homes and displacing nearly 100,000 people.>> The firefight in front of us continues to go on. The communities we are protecting are depending on us and we will not fail.
