>> Russia banned from the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea in a stunning move after evidence emerged of quote, unprecedented systematic manipulation of the anti-doping system. The International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach made the announcement Tuesday.>> The Russian Olympic Committee is suspended with immediate effect. Individual clean Russian athletes will be able to participate under strict conditions at the Olympic Winter Games, PyeongChang 2018.

These invited athletes will participate under the name Olympic Athlete from Russia.>> That means the athletes wear uniforms bearing the acronym OAR and compete under the Olympic flag. And at medal ceremonies, the Olympic anthem will be played. The IOC's decision comes 18 months after it had refused an outright ban of Russian athletes at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

It left that decision to international sports federations. Reuters reporter Steve Keeting.>> Quite simply, Bach explained they just had more time and investigation showed it just wasn't about providing athletes with drugs but a manipulation of the Olympic lab in Sochi. And clearly that is where the IOC has drawn the line.

What we did see was the impact this whole affair has had on Grigory Rodchenkov, the former head of the Russian lab turned whistleblower. Rodchenkov's lawyer said on a conference call today that his client lives in fear and that for the rest of his life will be looking over his shoulder.

>> All the track and field athletes except for one and the entire weightlifitng team were banned from Rio. But around 70% of Russia's original squad ended up taking part in those games. Many Russian sporting figures expressed outrage over the decision. The IOC also suspended Russian Olympic Committee President Alexander Zhukov.
