>> One man is in custody after British police say he attempted to force his way onto a military base predominantly used by the US Air Force. Information is still coming in on this developing story. But police say American service members stationed at Mildenhall Royal Air Force base in central England fired shots during the incident.
And the suspect was detained with cuts and bruises. It happened around 1:00 in the afternoon. It's not yet clear how the suspect attempted to get onto the base or what his intentions were. But a Western security source says it's not being treated as a militant incident at this stage.
But it did trigger a lockdown that has since been lifted. About 3,100 US military are stationed at the base, and an additional 3,000 family members. It's used by NATO to refuel aircraft in Europe. And it's scheduled to close as the Air Force moves the operation to Germany. The US embassy declined immediate comment.
