>> At least three people were killed on Monday when an Amtrak train derailed on a bridge over a highway on Washington state. 13 of 14 cars jumped the trucks near the town of Dupont where emergency vehicles soon swarmed the scene. The train was making its inaugural run on a new route and had just rounded a curve.

A federal safety official said it was traveling at 80 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone. According to media reports, passengers were forced to kick out train windows to escape because the emergency doors weren't working properly. Dozens of people were taken to nearby hospitals, ten with series injuries.

>> And I was like we're spinning and the train behind has hit us, it was just like a whole lot going on.>> Amtrak said 80 passengers and 6 crew were onboard. A top Amtrak official declined to speculate on the cause. The track had been upgraded from its prior use for slow-moving freight to allow passenger trains to reach higher speeds.

But they did confirm that positive train control which automatically slows speeding trains was not installed on this stretch of line.
