>> Good morning.>> Donald Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen asked a federal court in California Thursday to issue a restraining order against Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for Stormy Daniels. In a filing, Cohen's lawyer asked the court to prohibit Avenatti from speaking publicly about a lawsuit he filed on behalf of Daniels in March.
Saying quote, Mr. Avenatti's actions are mainly driven by his seemingly unquenchable thirst for publicity. Avenatti described the motion for the gag order as a quote, complete joke and baseless.>> There's no question in my mind that he's gonna be indited, and there's no question in my mind that he's gonna try to flip on the president.
This is what happens when you trust your inner most secrets to a moron.>> It's relentless TV appearances like these that sparked the request. Avenatti's been on a PR blitz to win over public opinion for his client's case. Daniels sued Trump in March, saying he never signed an agreement for her to keep quiet about a quote, intimate relationship between them in 2006, an agreement in which Cohen paid Daniels $130,000.
Trump has denied the affair and knowing about that payment. Avenatti has made 121 TV appearances to discuss the case, and has tweeted about it more than 400 times, according to the court document. Cohen and his lawyers say that by routinely denigrating Cohen with claims of criminal conduct, Avenatti is denying him the right to a fair trial.
Cohen's business practices are under criminal investigation based on a referral by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating whether Trump's campaign colluded with Russia.
