>> Police in Sydney charge a man with attempted murder after what they call an Islamic State inspired knife attack. Witnesses said the victim was stabbed in the street and took shelter in a nearby hairdresser's shop. Another witness hit the attacker with a piece of wood. New South Wales police said the 22 year old attacker is the new face of terrorism.
>> There is no continuing threat associated with this particular matter with this particular person. We don't believe he was connected, as I said, with any terrorist group, or with any of our terrorist people. This is the challenge. This is the challenge we face.>> Speaking on the anniversary of 9/11, Australia's Prime Minister linked it to the Sydney attack.
>> On one level, they seem very different, 15 years apart, very different events. But connecting them both is a violent Islamist ideology which perverts the religion of Islam and seeks to destroy and threaten our way of life. There have been several low assaults in Australia including this Sydney cafe siege in 2014 that left three people dead.
Australia's a staunch US ally and authorities have said they've thwarted a number of plots.
