>> The aftermath of an attack on a Baghdad shopping mall. 12 people were killed in two suicide bombings late on Friday in the Iraqi capital. More than 40 people were wounded. The Nakheel mall that was targeted sits across from the country's oil ministry in eastern Baghdad. A news agency known for its support of Islamic state said the militant group carried out the twin attacks targeting what it called a gathering of Shiites.
The sectarian conflict in Iraq has been exacerbated by the fight against Islamic state but the militants have been losing ground over the past year. US backed government forces and Iranian backed Shiite militias are gearing up for an offensive next month to recapture the northern city of Mosul. But attacks such as this one show the group is still capable of striking outside the territory it controls.
