>> The Syrian cease fire in jeopardy with news the US may have accidentally bombed government troops in eastern Syria possibly killing dozens. The US military says it thought it was targeting Islamic state in and stopped after Russia informed them that Syrian soldiers have been hit.>> If we determined that we did indeed strike Syrian military personnel, that was not our intention.
And we, of course, regret the loss of life.>>
> Russia accusing the US of undermining the fragile five day old truce, and calling an emergency UN security council meeting Saturday night. A local news agency quoting the foreign ministry saying this proves the White House is defending Islamic State.
>> It is quite significant, and frankly suspicious, that the United States chose to conduct this particular air strike at this time.>> The US hitting back, accusing Russia of grandstanding and pulling a cynical and hypocritical stunt.>> Imagine how often this council would be meeting if we were to gather every time the regime or Russia struck a hospital, or a school, or a bread line.
Syrian observatory for human rights says at least 90 Syrian soldiers were killed in the strike, allowing Islamic State to briefly overrun a position near the airport. Meanwhile, the Islamic State affiliated news agency, Amaq, says the jihadists have shot down a Syrian ministry plane in the same area on Sunday.
The pilot is believed to have been killed.
