He came to Washington to relay a message directly from the Supreme Leader himself. An invitation to Trump to discuss North Korea's nuclear program. The security advisor also described a commitment from Kim to denuclearization.

He added quote, President Trump has made his reputation on making deals. A meeting between the two would be a dramatic diplomatic breakthrough in an ongoing nuclear standoff. The first ever US, North Korea summit. Kim's overture comes after nearly a year of the two sides trading threats and insults from Trump's warning of fire and fury to Kim considering a missile strike on US territory, Guam.

However, North Korea has made and then backed off promises like this in the past. It has also resisted getting rid of its nuclear weapons despite global pressure to disarm, and international sanctions.
