>> The West Virginia teacher's strike is over. Lawmakers struck a deal Tuesday to give teachers and all state employees a 5% raise. They've been on strike for more than a week. West Virginia Governor Jim Justice who pushed for the raise, said in a tweet Tuesday quote, I stood rock solid on the 5% teacher pay raise and delivered.
Some lawmakers had argued for a lower raise of 4%.>> 55 strong!>> Nearly 300,000 students had been out of school since February 22nd, as teachers and other school employees from all 55 counties pushed for higher pay. West Virginia is ranked 48th among the 50 states in average teacher salary at $45,622.
But now with the promise of more money in their pockets, the teachers and their students are headed back to class.
