ry selection began, Thursday, for the only person charged in the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting. Noor Salman, the 31-year-old widow of gunman Omar Mateen, will stand trial on charges including aiding and abetting her husband in one of the deadliest mass shootings in US history. 49 people were killed and 53 wounded.

Mateen died in an exchange of gunfire with police at the club, leaving his wife behind to face up to life in prison if convicted. Salman will likely be portrayed by her defense lawyers as a victim of domestic abuse. And that will be a challenge for federal prosecutors as they try to argue that she knew of her husband's plans to launch an attack and did nothing to stop it.
Court officers say the trial could take as long as a month.
