Kobe Steel was one of the biggest Japanese industrial scandals in recent memory. Last year, the revelations through global supply chains and the turmoil, dragging Japan's reputation from manufacturing excellence down with it. When the scandal broke in October, shares of the company nearly halved. Kobe Steel has managed to recoup somewhat.
Japanese automakers have vouched for the safety of the company's aluminium, and for now its finances appeared unscathed. But an ongoing probe by the US Justice Department means the company may still face costs both in fines and reputation.
