And on the other side of the wall, in Tijuana, Mexico, locals mocked Trump, and called him loco for thinking that spending billions of dollars on barriers would stop those determined to escape Mexico.

But the funding is held up in controversy over a host of immigration restrictions he and Republicans have proposed.>> California's sanctuary policy has put the entire nation at risk. They're the best friend of the criminal. The Trump administration last week sued the state to stop policies that protect undocumented immigrants against deportation.

Despite Trump's criticism of California, it's enjoyed strong economic growth in recent years. And as the state leaders often point out, it's the sixth largest economy in the world, and the economic engine of the nation.
