>> The man is utterly amoral.>> Months after eviscerating Donald Trump as a psychopathic liar as he left the 2016 stage, Ted Cruz now singing a different tune, the two holding what Cruz called a positive and productive meeting in Washington, the first since their brutal primary battle and Cruz agreeing to speak at Trump's convention this month, even as many GOP stars say they'll stay home.
Alana Weiss is on the story.>> So Cruz is one of the last Republicans to drop out of the race for the party's presidential nomination. And towards the end the fight between Trump and Cruz got profoundly bitter, at one point Trump retweeted an unflattering image of Cruz's wife.
Next to Trump's own wife, Melania, a former model. Trump dubbed Cruz Lying Ted, and continued to call him that throughout the duration of the campaign.>> Lying Ted.>> Donald Trump met with several Republican lawmakers on the Hill, including Cruz. During the meeting Cruz said that Trump asked would he be willing to speak at the Republican convention later this month, and Cruz said he obliged and was happy to do so.
>> Cruz posed the biggest threat to Trump in 2016 out of 17 rivals and still has fervent supporters in the party's conservative wing that Trump wants on his side.>> Cruz's presence at the convention could lend legitimacy to Trump's as the party's standard-bearer for this election cycle. If Cruz goes so far as to endorse either ahead or at the convention it may free up some delegates who were considering joining Stop Trump or Never Trump movements.
>> The Cruz camp said there was no talk of a Trump endorsement, but he has not ruled it out.
