> In the same week, three suicide bombers attacked Turkey's main airport, another attack is unfolding in Bangladesh. Eight to nine gunmen opening fire on a restaurant late Friday and taking hostages. The Holey Artisan is a popular spot for foreigners to grab a bite to eat and is located in the upscale, diplomatic neighborhood of the country's capital city, Dhaka.
Two policemen were shot dead. Several foreigners are among the two dozen or so hostages, but American diplomatic staff are safe, according to the US State Department.>> Our embassy in Dhaka is currently conducting accountability. I can tell you as of now, just before I came out here, that they have accounted for 100% of American citizens working under the Chief of Mission authority.
The situation's on going, obviously, too early for us to say who's involved, motivation, any of that stuff.>> What is known is that violence in that country is on the rise. Several machete attacks have taken place recently against Liberal activists bloggers, atheists, and members of the religious minority by Islamic extremists.
Earlier in the day, a Hindu priest was hacked to death in front of a temple less than 200 miles from Dhaka. And last year two foreigners were killed, forcing several western firms to halt visits. Islamic State has claimed the responsibility for Friday's restaurant attack.
