Yara Biyumi is on the story.>> Mosul is important because it is the self-declared capital of the Islamic State. They took Mosul in 2014 and from Mosul, Islamic State has been been able to expand the area of territory that it took from 2014 on wards. So really taking back Mosul would be a really big blow for Islamic State.
The reinforcements bring to 4600, the number of US military advisers in Iraq. There to assist Iraqi forces as they try to finally push out the Sunni militants two years after they seized large areas of the country.>> The move comes just days after Obama announced he would also leave over 8,000 troops in Afghanistan when he leaves office, despite a pledge to end both involvements when he ran for the White House.
