reams and bloodshed in Dallas Thursday night. Five police officers killed by snipers, seven other cops wounded. Shots ringing out as a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest against the shooting of two black men in Minnesota and Louisiana was winding down. The snipers, some in elevated positions, using rifles in what appears to be a coordinated attack.
Police so far taking three people into custody, a fourth suspect identified as 25 year old Micah Johnson, killed by a robotic bomb detonated by police in a downtown garage where he had been cornered. And after a long stand off with cops, during which gun fire was exchanged.>> We saw no other option but to use our bomb robot and place a device on it's extension for it to detonate where the suspect was.
Other options would've exposed our officers to grave danger. The suspect is deceased as a result of detonating the bomb.>> Before his death, the suspect telling police he was upset about the recent fatal shootings of black men at the hands of police officers.>> The suspect said he was upset at white people.
The suspect stated he wanted to kill white people especially white officers. The shooter also saying there were bombs all over the place in the garage and downtown. But a sweep of the area by police, finding no explosives>> About 20 blocks, in Downtown Dallas, are shutdown right now as police continue to process the crime scene.
City and county buildings are closed for business today and Dallas police just said there are still dozens of cars belonging to protesters that are parked in the barricaded area. And it will take several hours before they're released from the crime scene.>> Two civilians were also wounded in the shooting.
