state and local governments could be headed for a stand off as a growing contingent of sheriffs and commissioners say they won't enforce state gun laws for far too long citizens of just sat back and let our government do whatever they want %HESITATION in , enact laws that are just on the books like a feel good law that doesn't really protect people share of Tony Mays declared his jurisdiction new Mexico's the Bullitt county a second amendment sanctuary all we want to do is use that resolution to say the people of New Mexico as a whole like their right to bear arms the rebellion playing out in at least four states with conservative law enforcement leaders in Illinois New Mexico Washington and Oregon vowing to defy any law they say violates their second amendment right to bear arms gun control laws spurred on in part by last year's school shooting in parkland Florida Reuters correspondent Daniel trata when the students rose up and really effective changed the gun control debate Democrats got animated they used the gun control debate in November %HESITATION when they not only took over the house of representatives but made big gains at the state level and it's in those states now that the Democrats are following through on their promise and raising the hackles of rural people who didn't want to see that come down the pike well the conflict at this point remains a war of words threats are flying in both directions in the state of Washington the Attorney General has essentially threatened county sheriff saying if they do not support the initiative they do not enforce initiative there could be legal consequences one county sheriff I talked to thought the Attorney General was bluffing and essentially challenged him to go to court the growing battle reflecting the widening rift between rural and urban communities across the nation
