>> Three Maltese nationals believed to have masterminded the killing of anti-corruption journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia have been identified. That's the report in a Maltese newspaper on Sunday, quoting high-ranking officials in the murder probe. They, The Sunday Times of Malta claims, say their investigation is at a very advanced stage.
Caruana Galizia was killed by a car bomb by the Maltese capital Valletta in October 2017.>>
>> Three men suspected of carrying out that killing have been under arrest for almost a year and have pleaded not guilty.
The motive remains unclear, but The Sunday Times said investigators believe the masterminds had different motives and came together to contract the three men currently held. Investigators were quoted as saying they were in contact with Europol, and this has intensified in recent weeks as they got closer to cracking the case.
