>> For vigilance and participation.>> Gunmen in Kenya kidnapped an Italian charity worker and shot five people, including children, on Tuesday. Police said the men were armed with AK-47s when they attacked the town of Chakama in the southeast of the country. Five people were wounded, including a 10 year old shot in the eye, and a 12 year old who was hit in the thigh.
A number of foreign nationals were kidnapped from the coast in 2011 and 2012 in raids blamed on Somali Islamist militants. But Tuesday's attack is the first abduction of a foreigner since then. One witness told Reuters there were three attackers who spoke Somali. Kenya's tourism industry plunged sharply between 2012 and 2016 after a series of attacks by Al Shabaab.
In retaliation for Kenya's military intervention in neighboring Somalia. The 23 year old woman was grabbed as she left her room to see what was going on. According to a witness who spoke to a Kenyan news channel. The National Police Service said she was volunteering with Africa Milele Onlus, a small Italian charity that works with children.
