>> Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been tussling with regulators lately, but he has a new worry that's not the SEC, Mexico's Tequila Regulatory Council. On October 12th Musk tweeted, quote, Teslaquila coming soon, with a photo of a bottle of something claiming to be an agave based spirit. Tesla has filed an application to trademark the word Teslaquila.
But those who decide what is and what isn't Tequila's say, not so fast. The council argued that the quote, name Teslaquila evokes the word tequila, and tequila is a protected word. Musk, they say, must abide by the strict rules of origin for the spirit, which dictate it must be made in the Mexican states of Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas, among other requirements.
Tesla did not respond to requests for comment.
