the USS John McCain is making waves in the media the Wall Street journal reported Wednesday that U. S. navy officials in Japan were asked to move the warship during a recent visit by president Donald Trump the request reportedly came from the White House the McCain was named partly after the late Arizona senator a critic of Donald Trump and subject of his attacks according to the journal trump was scheduled to give a speech nearby and the White House wanted the destroyer quote out of sight it said a tarp was home to cover the ship's name and its sailors were given the day off trump responded to the report tweeting he had nothing to do with the plan a source in Washington confirmed the navy had received the request but said it was scrapped by some of its senior officials according to a navy spokesman the tarp was taken down and all ships were quote normal configuration for the president's visit the USS John McCain was named not only after the late senator but also his father and grandfather both admirals in the navy McCain was shot down imprisoned and tortured during the Vietnam War his family has been outspoken in defending his legacy McCain's daughter Megan responded to Wednesday's news tweeting that trump quote will always be deeply threatened by the greatness of my dad's incredible life
