greyhound buses are up for sale it's British owner first group says it wants to offload the famous American brand it won't say how much at once but it spent three point six billion dollars to acquire the brand's twelve years ago greyhound has been a household name in the United States since it was founded in nineteen fourteen it's coaches and iconic image featured in movies and songs not least Simon and Garfunkel's America now greyhound is one of the only surviving operators of intercity bus services in the country it carries seventeen million passengers a year to some twenty four hundred destinations but changing travel trends are proving a problem , apple has gotten much cheaper in real terms the current low oil prices also encourage people to drive more first group wants to concentrate on its contract services instead including school buses it may also sell off its British Rail operations
