democratic presidential candidate Pete booted judge has boasted on the campaign trail about his economic transformation of his home town south bend Indiana during his time as the city's mayor when I arrived in office in the beginning of this decade the national press and that our city was dying we propelled our cities come back by taking our eyes off the rear view mirror but just a few minutes away from that the writing downtown area a big contrast south bend's west side are predominately black neighborhood which is anything but thriving the streets are pot holed and some homes are deserted and analysis of the US census bureau data reveals that residents here have become poorer since booted judge took over the city in twenty twelve Reuters correspondent Tim Reid talk to residents and local activists who say they are feeling ignored by the mayor and a lot of people who live here who I've been talking to so angry with them that I feel that this neighborhood to be neglected that they haven't had any help that there was no economic opportunities and so there are parts of the city where the love for PPO judge is not felt adult it seems like they've neglected in the west side %HESITATION so that they can bring the property values down and buy us all out I would , Carol activist Bernardo Malone also lives in the neighborhood and says he doesn't plan to vote for booted judge in the presidential election you see how old abandoned houses , the judge does have much to brag about and south bend's chief executive the city has seen five consecutive years of population gain after years of decline and unemployment in the city has been cut in half since he took office with one billion dollars of investment flowing into the city as for the census data booted judges campaign says it offers an incomplete picture of the city , at a national level booted judge was praised for his presidential debate performance with his campaign on Monday announcing a huge fundraising hall of twenty four point eight million dollars in the past three months , still the thirty seven year old bear is struggling to gain traction with black voters with tensions boiling after the fatal shooting of a black man by a white police officer last month %HESITATION judge was booed by black audience members during the debate %HESITATION the judge said he quote failed to make the police force more diverse and that more working needed to be done , this week in Chicago he told an audience of black voters that if you were elected president he would address systemic racism in the country problem this is an American problem and it requires nationwide American solutions
