so we're working on a lot of things including an executive order the trump administration is scrambling to find a way of adding a contentious citizenship question to the twenty twenty census with administration lawyers telling a Maryland based judge Friday that they have not yet finalized a new rationale for adding the query a Supreme Court ruling last week blocked the question from being printed on the twenty twenty census forms saying that administration officials had given a contrived to reason for its inclusion but it left open the possibility that the administration could offer a plausible rationale which according to Friday's filing it's still looking for on Tuesday at the department of justice confirm the administration was giving up on its efforts to out the question but trump reverse that in a tweet Thursday saying the department of commerce and department of justice are working very hard on this the census question has become a hot button issue with critics calling it a Republican maneuver to deter immigrants from taking part a move that would produce an undercount in areas with high immigrant populations and therefore cost democratic leaning regions seats in the house
