in a legal victory for president Donald Trump a federal appeals court on Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit alleging trump has been illegally profiting from his luxury hotel in Washington DC good afternoon the Attorney General of Maryland and DC had brought the case arguing trump had run afoul of the constitution by accepting payments from foreign and state officials that is trump international hotel the suit cited the constitution's emoluments clause which bars US officials from accepting payments from foreign governments but any unanimous ruling the three judge panel rejected the suit saying the attorneys general black to legal standing to bring the case trump praise the court's ruling on Twitter saying we're just out that I won a big part of the deep state and Democrat induced witch hunt the attorneys general from Maryland and DC said in a joint statement they will continue to pursue legal options to hold trump accountable unlike past presidents trump has retained ownership of his real estate empire while in office drawing a chorus of critics the trump hotel just blocks from the White House open shortly before he was elected and has become a favorite of foreign and state officials and trump supporters trump also continues to operate his members only Mar a Lago resort in Palm Beach Florida while referring to it as the southern White House he still faces a similar lawsuit brought by more than two hundred Democratic Party lawmakers with early rulings running against him
